A Sad Day

A week or two after Abbey left, the kids and I were on our way to a birthday party at Chic-fil-A
It was on the other end of town where I wasn't really used to driving. When we got to the road I thought that we were in a left turning lane, however we were not. It was actually three lanes going that direction so I needed to be over one more lane. So when I went to turn I hit into the side of a red ford truck.
This was the first car accident I have ever been in and needless to say I was slightly hysterical.  I'm sure the fact that I was 18 weeks pregnant didn't help my emotions any.
I had the kids with me and I remember just saying to myself over and over again how they could have been hurt. I probably asked them a bazillion times if they were OK. I was also panicking about the older gentlemen in the truck, who actually turned out to be incredibly nice and calm. Thank heavens! I am sure he was just feeling sorry for me in my super emotional moment.
After we got things in order Eli came and picked us up and we headed home.
All of the kids seemed to be feeling fine still.
I had a pretty sore arm for a couple days and a bump on the side of my head where I hit the drivers side window.
I was still pretty shaken up and from the stress my stomach where baby was, was really hurting.  After a couple hours at home and still not feeling my best, Eli and I decided to be on the safe side, so I went into the ER. They checked the babies heartbeat and movement and everything was fine so I headed back home.
A few days later we got the results on the van, it was totaled. I was pretty sad because I loved my van. At the same time however I was so grateful the accident wasn't worse. Nobody was seriously injured. The passenger in the truck, and me and all my children were safe! What a huge huge blessing it was!
I know it wasn't a major accident but it was definitely life altering. I had a hard time driving for a while after that and was extra paranoid. I always avoided that end of town after this happened because every time I'd be close I would feel like I was going to hyperventilate. It has definitely made me more aware of my surroundings when I am driving.

Here is Ben by the new van we got after the accident. A Chrysler instead of a Dodge.
We have enjoyed driving it. They are basically the same thing
just the interior and exterior colors swapped places. It does its job well.
Fits all of my kids and makes loading in and out simple. After I wrecked mine everyone kept telling me it was the perfect opportunity to get something other than a "van" what can I say...
I am a van mom! Love it!
I can't imaging driving anything different with my crazy, busy, super messy, adorable kiddos!
