My Beloved Grandmas!

Shortly after we moved to Missouri we got the phone call that Grandma Phyllis Moser had passed away. Eli and I decided it would be good for me to fly out and spend time with the family and go to the funeral. While we were there we stopped to visit Grandma Fern Wimmer as well. It turns out that would be my last visit with her. She passed away a few weeks later. Words can not express how thankful I am that I was blessed to have these two women in my life! They were both such amazing women and amazing examples to me. My heart overflows with love and memories I have of each of them. What great families they raised and left behind.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Heritage Home and the staff of Access Home Care and Webb Funeral Home. Oh how we love our Mother!

It all began on a farm in Slaterville, Utah, where Eliza Edith Rich and John Amos Holley welcomed their second child, Fern Bernice on July 24, 1922. She was born in the back bedroom of the Holley home. Her father was also born at the same homestead in 1896. When their family was complete, Fern had ten siblings, Norma, Rich, Reta, Melba, Ray, Rayola, Carl, Colleen, Lee and LaWana. They all worked very hard on the farm, feeding chickens, milking cows, planting and harvesting the fields and garden. She loved the country life. She often said, "You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl!"

Fern attended various schools in Weber County, graduating from Weber High School. Soon after, George Albert Wimmer took her from the country life to the Mesa Arizona Temple to be married for eternity on October 19, 1942. They lived in San Antonio, Texas for the next four years, while Albert served in the military and attended Texas Chiropractic College. Holly Kay and Michael Warren were born while living there. When they returned to Ogden, Utah to begin their Chiropractic career, Connie Louise, and then twins, Douglas Max and Debra were soon welcomed into the family.

While her children attended school, she was active in the PTA, Cub Scouting, and in various community organizations. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (Camp Hope). Many of her years were spent nurturing and caring for young children in her home.

She loved and embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving in the Lomond View Ward Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society organizations, and later in the Lorin Farr Stake Relief Society Presidency. In 1984 she served a mission with Albert in the England Leeds Mission. Upon their return, they served as directors of the Ogden Temple Visitors Center.

Her talents and love of family made her an exceptional homemaker. In 1995 she was chosen as the Utah Mother of the Year, an honor she had rightly earned. One of her skills was baking the most delicious cakes and pies. Whatever she served was "stirred with a lot of love". Often requests were made for a favorite dish, and she would happily prepare it. She was also a perfectionist in keeping her home and yard, warmly welcoming anyone who stopped by. One of her greatest joys was spending countless hours, caring for and enjoying the farm where she was born.

She has left a legacy of faith. She was stalwart in service, and honest and dependable in word and deed. Her joyful devotion to family will forever be a tremendous influence on the lives of her posterity. We will cherish the many wonderful memories she has created with each of us individually. Oma, as we affectionately called her, has been an exceptional example of kindness, gratitude and love. Always a cheerleader to encourage and support, no matter what the circumstances, she loved unconditionally. "Bless your Heart" was often spoken to each of us, and we knew that meant she cared.

She graciously, patiently, and very quietly left us on, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the age of 91 to join her "Forever Albert". Reunited with her parents and countless loved ones, her new journey begins.

Fern's (very fruitful) family tree includes her five children: Holly (Ron) Norton, Dr. Michael Wimmer, Jan Wimmer (daughter -in-law), Connie (Ed) Moser, Douglas (Ginny) Wimmer and Debra (Greg) Downs. She loves her twenty-seven grandchildren and seventy nine great grandchildren. She touched the hearts of many loving friends near and far, and the caregivers from Legacy and Wasatch Care Center. The family expresses their appreciation for their kindness to her, with special expressions of love to Jodi Wise, and many others.

A memorial in her honor will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11 am at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday evening from 5:30 – 7 pm, and Monday morning from 9:45 – 10:45 am.
"Bless your heart, Mother, we love you!"
